TESTIMONIALS

Hi Ken

Just wanted to let you know we started installing the pads at Burbine Forest in southern Montgomery County and we are really happy with them. So far we have 8 of the 18 installed all done by volunteers to install them. I know they have been installed at the course in Glens Falls too and have had good reviews.

Montgomery County is planning a Grand Opening at the course this Friday at 5pm.

Thanks for giving us a good deal on the price on those.

Burbine Forest Disc Golf Course

_________________________________________________

We began carving a disc golf course from the Maine wood back in early 2023.  By the spring of 2024 we were ready to open our first nine holes.   Step Back Disc Golf is located in Blue Hill along the coast.  We have a relatively remote site that has been worked by hand, using chainsaws to thin trees and clear brush.  For tee pads, the traditional concrete pad was looking problematic.  There was no way to get a concrete truck or mixer/water to most of the holes.

I checked around and found the Morley Athletic site, and it seemed their rubber mats made from recycled tires could be the ideal alternative to concrete.  I made a few calls to the references provided and received encouraging feedback.  I move ahead with an order for my first nine holes.

Over the past three years, these 4' x 12' rubber mats have proven to be exceptional in terms of cost-effectiveness, playability, durability, and slip resistance.   I can't say enough good things, and my sentiments have been echoed by our customer base.

I did learn one important lesson from the experience:  It is best to install the matting over top  3/4" marine grade plywood that has been securely screwed to a 4' x 12' wooden frame, comprised of pressure treated 2 x 4's.  We then screw the matting to the frame with small stainless steel screws so it doesn't slide around over time.   I originally built several tee areas by spreading out fine, sandy gravel , and then rolling it to compact it.  Unfortunately, over time this strategy begins to fail because of foot traffic and frost heave.  Ultimately, undulations appear and can be annoying when stepping forward to throw.

We will have a total of 27 holes for the spring of 2027, and all the new tee pads will be installed utilizing the pressure treated frames/decking, and will be topped with Morley Athletic matting.
We will also soon be converting all the remaining on ground tree pads to pressure treated decking that will be covered with the same mats that are presently on the ground.  We have had no weather or vandalism related issues with these tee mats.

I would highly recommend this system to anyone building a course in a difficult to access location that is looking to keep costs in check, while still delivering a very consistent and classy tee pad system.
