Precision Engineering for the Sky: Choosing Your Standards
In the pole vault, the standards are far more than simple uprights; they are precision instruments that must provide both massive height range and delicate horizontal adjustment. For athletic directors and coaches, the goal is to provide a setup that allows for easy "working the bar" while maintaining total stability at heights exceeding 18 feet. Our 2026 collection focuses on institutional-grade standards that feature smooth-operating height adjustment mechanisms and the mandatory base-movement capabilities required for sanctioned competition.
Key Features of Professional Vaulting Standards
We stock specifically chosen uprights to ensure your facility provides a safe and legal environment for every vaulter.
- Telescoping Aluminum vs. Heavy-Duty Steel: Our UCS International and Blazer Aluminum models offer the pinnacle of performance—rust-proof, lightweight for adjustment, and featuring internal mechanisms that protect the measurement scale. For programs needing maximum durability on a budget, our powder-coated steel models provide a "built-like-a-tank" foundation that lasts for decades.
- Essential Base Movement: Safety rules require that the crossbar be able to move horizontally (usually 0 to 32 inches or 80cm) relative to the back of the planting box. Our standards feature integrated base tracks with easy-read scales, allowing officials to adjust the "depth" of the bar instantly for different athletes' needs.
- Accurate Height Measurement: No more tape measures on ladders. Most of our professional standards feature eye-level height readouts and dual scales in both Imperial (Feet/Inches) and Metric (Meters), ensuring your records are official and easy to verify.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the difference between "Inline" and "Offset" standards?
Inline standards have the upright centered directly over the base track. Offset standards have the upright positioned to one side. Offset designs are often preferred because they provide more clearance for the landing system (pit) and reduce the risk of an athlete striking the standard during a vault.
2. How much base movement is required for high school competition?
According to NFHS rules, pole vault standards must be able to move horizontally from 0 to 32 inches (or 80 cm) toward the landing area. This allows the vaulter to position the crossbar at the safest point relative to their "peak" height and the back of the box.
3. Do the standards come with the crossbar?
Generally, pole vault standards are sold as a pair of uprights. Crossbars (fiberglass or elastic) are sold separately, allowing you to choose the specific length and material that fits your program's needs.
4. How do I maintain the standards during the off-season?
While our standards are powder-coated or anodized to resist rust, we recommend storing them indoors or under specialized weather covers during the winter. Periodically lubricating the height adjustment handles and the base-track sliders will ensure they remain easy to operate for the spring season.
5. How are these standards shipped?
Because of their extreme height and weight, pole vault standards are considered "Oversized" and must ship via Motor Freight (LTL). We recommend ordering them as part of a package (with base pads or pits) to help consolidate shipping costs.
6. Do you accept school purchase orders for track uprights?
Absolutely. Morley Athletic has worked directly with schools and universities for over nine decades. We happily accept school purchase orders. Athletic directors and track coaches can easily submit a formal PO to purchase standards, landing systems, crossbars, and vaulting poles for their entire program.
