1. What is the difference between Velcro flags and "Pop" release belts?
With Velcro (hook-and-loop) flags, the individual flag tears away from the belt when pulled, leaving the belt secured around the player's waist. With a "Pop" or Sonic release belt, the flags are permanently attached to the belt; when a defender pulls a flag, the entire belt unclips and falls to the ground with an audible "pop," making it very easy for the referee to see and hear that the tackle was made.
2. Should our league use a 2-flag or 3-flag system?
2-flag systems (one flag on each hip) are the standard for most competitive, adult, and sanctioned high school leagues. 3-flag systems (one on each hip and one on the tailbone) are excellent for youth leagues and physical education classes because they give the defense a third target, reducing frustration and helping kids learn proper pursuit angles.
