2025 NFHS Lacrosse Rule Changes To Make Note Of

Seems like every year the NFHS tweaks a few rules in lacrosse for high school level competition.  Whether you agree or disagree with the changes it's important to note the new rules before your season starts.

Below is a basic summary of the new changes for the 2025 High School Lacrosse season.

Changes for Boys Lacrosse:

  • Mandatory equipment: Officials must stop play when a player in the scrimmage area loses a piece of mandatory equipment
  • Chin strap: Clarifies that the chin strap is to be worn on the chin, not under
  • Restart near the substitution area: The ball must be moved into the field of play 5 yards on every restart near the substitution area
  • Whistle on loss of equipment: A whistle is blown when a player loses a piece of mandatory equipment in the scrimmage area
  • Intentional vs. unintentional checks: Distinguishes between intentional and unintentional checks involving the head or neck

This years updates are pretty simple and make sense.  The only one that could get a little sticky on the field is the intentional vs unintentional checks rule but we can see the importance of the rule.

There are no changes for Girls Lacrosse for this season as of now.
